Meet our esteemed group leader, Dra. Ana Champi, a trailblazer in the fields of Physics and Materials Science. Dra. Ana Champi holds a Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (1997), a Master's degree in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2000), and a Ph.D. in Physics from the same institution (2004). Their academic journey continued with Postdoctoral research at UNICAMP (2006), University of São Paulo (USP - 2008), and the University of Leipzig in Germany.

Currently serving as an Associate Professor IV at Universidade Federal do ABC, Dra. Ana Champi is deeply involved in the Graduate Programs in Materials Science and Biotechnology at UFABC. They lead as the coordinator of the Carbon Materials Laboratory: Graphene - UFABC and are an integral member of the National Institute of Carbon Materials (INCT).

With a wealth of experience in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials, and Bioengineering, Dra. Ana Champi specializes in Raman Spectroscopy, electronic, mechanical, and magnetotransport properties of carbon thin films, natural Rhombohedral graphite, few-layer graphenes, graphene oxides, and functionalized Nanomaterials with graphene derivatives. Their expertise extends to industrial applications such as batteries, electrochemical biosensors, viral RNA extraction, and more. Dra. Ana Champi is also engaged in pioneering studies of Nanoecotoxicology involving graphene derivatives in plants and biomedical applications.

In addition to their research endeavors, Dra. Ana Champi serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals including Applied Physics Letters, Diamond Related Materials, Journal of Non-Crystalline, Thin Solid Films, Carbon, Biosensors Bioelectronics, and more. They are honored to be a part of the National Academy of Sciences and Technology (ANCYT) of Peru and have received prestigious awards, including being the First Honorary Member incorporated into the Board of Physicists of Peru (2019).
